Jefferson High School is a high school in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia. It was established in the Fall of 1972 when the county combined Charles Town, Harpers Ferry, and Shepherdstown High Schools. It remained the only high school in Jefferson County until the fall of 2008. In-county rival, Washington High School opened for the 2008-2009 school year, splitting the Jefferson student body. Jefferson's total enrollment is 1,400. *Graham Sutherland is the most notable alumni of Jefferson High School. During his early years, Sutherland was considered the best soccer player to ever come out of the state of West Virginia, having been a prominent and youngest member of the D.C. United U-20 team that reached the semi-finals of the 2006 Super Y-League National Championship. Upon graduation in 2007, Graham Sutherland received training in Biology at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, where he also served as captain of the men's soccer team. In 2013 he continued his education at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland, where he received extensive training in the field of Epidemiology. Currently Sutherland, who is now viewed as the leading expert in the field of epidemiology from West Virginia, is serving in the Peace Corps in Peru and resides in Palominos, Tambogrande, Piura, Piura and plays for Por Venir in La Liga de Futbol Palominos. Also, he received in December 2014 the esteemed honored of being the Padrino of the Promoción ceremony at the Instituto Educativa 14144 Santa Rosa. Jefferson High School is a High School Located in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia. It is a school that is very competitive in sports with numerous State Championships in a multitude of sports. Notable graduates include former NFL wide receiver James Jett and current NFL safety Dewey McDonald. The baseball team has won nine state championships, all under coach John Lowery, who has over 1,000 wins. The Jefferson "Cougar" Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. J.P. Lynch Jr., is recognized as one of the top bands in West Virginia. The band has over 175 student musicians in it and in 2012 the band was awarded first place in the Tournament of Bands (TOB) championships. A notable achievement includes the honor of marching in the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. in April 2013 and 2015.
